Home Invasion

Feeling homesick? This Los Feliz local favorite offers hearty cooking with fresh organic ingredients in a cozy home setting. Alcove Cafe and Bakery opened at the historical location on June 2004 and continues to be a neighborhood staple for its good food and unique environment.

Alcove is housed in two of the oldest houses in Los Feliz; the oldest dating back to 1897. Although belonging to a number of different residents and businesses throughout its history– including specialty offices, a private school and a real estate firm– the building has found its perfect occupant in the Alcove.

The interior mimics the home’s original blueprint– being renovated with a number of arches, door frames and moldings used to match the historic craftmanship of the building. You will also be sure to find a vast selection of home furniture to choose from for your dinning experience. A house secret is the hidden drawer in one of the armour tables (situated in the back) which contains a pile of notes written by past guests.

Aside from its historical importance, Alcove’s kitchen will also go down in the books as part of L.A.’s history. Their commitment to “sourcing locally grown and organic product/produce whenever possible,” puts them in the foreground of quality Los Angeles dinning.

For breakfast enjoy their Crab Cake Benedict ($13.95), served with Maryland style crab cakes made from sweet blue crab meat, fresh spinach, two poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and fresh chives. Just as promising is the Alcove’s lunch and dinner menu! A favorite is their Slider x3 dish ($12.95) which features three pattys– one kobe beef burger, a texan style burger and a lamb burger. Each slider is paired with their own distinct sauce, including a wasabi aiolli, smoked chipotle ketchup and an olive tapenade and feta.

Alcove is welcomed at our home anytime! Be sure to visit them in Los Feliz or at their website at www.alcovecafe.com
